Months before the wedding, the engagement ceremony known as Magni is held.

The traditional Indian ceremony consists of some rituals. Here are the different customs of an Indian Hindu wedding ceremony.

Menhdi (Henna Ceremony)



The traditional and beautiful art of adorning the hands and feet of the bride to be with a paste made from the finely ground leaves of the Henna plant. Mehndi is supposed to be a very auspicious symbol for the bride, signifying the happy and joyous life she is going to lead.


Jaimala (Exchange of Garlands)

The wedding couple exchange garlands as a symbol of acceptance of one another and a pledge to respect one another as life-partners.


Madhupak (Offering of Yogurt and Honey)

The bride's father offers the groom yogurt and honey as a sign of welcome and respect.
